Is there a woodshop on campus?  Or at least a place where I could get my hands on a workbench and some basic tools, including band saw, plane, spokeshave?  I'd go shopping but I don't think Hank is going to take to sawdust too well.

The garage usually has a working space set up for one thing or another. No clue about the woodworking tools though, I'm afraid. There's probably a toolshed on the grounds or - actually, Cain would know.

If he doesn't answer here, I'll go look for him. Thanks. I didn't even consider using the garage space. I was just thinking of how silly Hank would look with wood-curls in his fur and figuring he wouldn't find it as funny as I might.

Hrm. Is it for a specific love of wood working thing? Or just for the result? Something complex or simple?

They'd make for a neat improvised cat toy, though.

The project's not terribly complex. I'm just too lazy to take the time to do it all by hand with a knife and rough plane if I don't have to.

..true, but the first thing Delphine does with sawdust is roll in it. The second thing she does is run get on the bed.

Hrm. If I take a quick enough swipe at it and keep the lasers at low intensity, I don't think the whole thing would burst into flames. And it might go faster.

You'd probably have to sand off a layer or two at the very least though. Imagine that wouldn't take you too long anyway.

A cat is a cat is a cat...

Oooh. Oh my. I think I know what you're getting at.

If I'm right... I'd be game, but at the same time, I don't know if I have the right touch for that. They can't be made in just any old way, really and I don't know the first thing about those.

They're not that hard. I'm just a lazy old man who's not going to shun that lovely invention of electricity.

Heh! I can't say anything there, being of the lazy persuasion myself. (Don't say it, Lorna.)

Nathan's old. He could use one of those.

We could settle him in one and install him by a fireplace. He could mutter and grumble while he rocks.

Nathan's not that much older than I am, young lady.

But he's still older and God knows he grumbles. And I think he must be a little senile the way he keeps forgetting what he's not supposed to do for his own safety.

The rocker may be a better threat than the straitjacket. Hmmm.

I don't forget. I just don't find these things out until I've already done them!

So it's not my fault. It's the universe's.

And now I should put the laptop away before Moira comes back and kills me. Or insists upon giving me another CAT scan, which is just as bad...

What DO you learn from? I'm flexible here, honest. Training does include the part about not dying/burning-out/imploding/having your brains run out your nose. I want to make sure we get that covered.

Good. I'm glad. I hope she keeps all the little sticky things in the freezer until she puts them on you.

Scott: Paul, why does your fieldkit include a special nitrogen-chilled supersoaker?
Me: Oh, that's for training Nate.

...that'll go over REAL well.

I have not yet begun to give her ideas. Really. We haven't collaborated once. Which isn't to say that it might not happen if you don't behave.

We could just start on your rocking chair. Pick out the fabric for the seat, stuffing material and all. Any colors in particular you'd prefer?

I'd say very senile on that score. And something of a stupidhead about it at times too.

I dunno. I think Moira has all the best threats in the world when it comes to keeping him from doing something vastly stupid.

Most of what you need there I can lend you, provided you aren't gonna break them, and I can't see you doing that.

As for space, there's a workbench back behind the garages, or you could setup in one of the old stables. I'd let you use my workshop, but Mao likes sawdust and I don't want to find any in my kitchen.

Can't figure for the life of me how that cat gets into cereal boxes.

You'd better hope he doesn't figure out tupperware. That's the only thing that keeps cat-entropy from taking over my kitchen. Delphine can open the fridge. And that means she can help herself to the soymilk if it's in the usual carton.

I'll take care of the tools, I appreciate it. I left all mine behind a long, long time ago. The workbench behind the garage will do quite well, thanks.

Yes, sir, I'm afraid so. Among other clever things like hiding the remote and your keys, falling in the toilet and then streaking through the house at full howl when you have a date over, getting shut in the laundry hamper, opening the sock drawer to play sock-ball, 'answering' the phone for you... hate to be the bearer of bad news.

Yeah, falling in the toilet I got already. Ain't nothing funnier than wet cat.

Hell, Mao's small enough he fits -in- one of my socks. Tries to kill it, gets inside and then I got a little ghost kitten with his nose sticking through a hole in the toe or something.

...that's an appallingly cute image. Delphine hasn't been that small in a very long time. She was quite the little runt when I got her, small enough to fall into a wineglass at one point. Fortunately it was white wine, can't imagine trying to get red wine out of a taupe cat. She's also had trips into hot chocolate, various lattes, you name it. Sweet tooth.
